The history of the Centrale des syndicats du Québec is rich in lessons. Its actions, struggles, and positions have contributed — and continue to contribute — to shaping Quebec society and influencing its development.
Since its inception, driven by Laure Gaudreault, the Corporation générale des instituteurs et institutrices catholiques de la province de Québec (CIC), which later became the Centrale de l’enseignement du Québec (CEQ), and then the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), has been firmly committed to defending and improving the working and living conditions of its members — the majority of whom are women. It has also played a key role in all the struggles aimed at building a better society, based on freedom, equality, solidarity, peace, and democracy.
